With the popularity of the original Light Rail Challenge which began in 2019, we are proud to announce the launch of a second round of the Light Rail Challenge, aptly named “Light Rail Challenge II”. This time, the Challenge will be split in to three regional categories: North, South, and East, so that we can expand the Challenge as the Light Rail System expands. Come join us on the “Light Rail Trail” and explore more of our region through public transit.
Here are the specifics of the Challenge:
- The Light Rail Challenge II special program starts January 1, 2023. Sales of Challenge books will end on December 31, 2025, or when all books are sold, whichever is sooner. Upon completion of the Challenge, you will receive an embroidered patch as an award. Purchase of the book includes the award. Program runs through December 31, 2027 to complete all 15 qualifying events.
- To participate, purchase a Challenge book, and complete 15 AVA sanctioned events which meet the criteria herein. You must register for the event as a “Credit” walker, and pay the event fee to the sponsoring Club for that event.
- The Challenge is split into three regional categories: North, South, and East. As you complete AVA events, place the IVV certification stamp on the line under one of the three categories for which that event qualifies, and then write the name of the Light Rail Station as the qualifier, and the date when you completed the walk.
- If a walk qualifies for more than one category, select one category and stamp your book under that category. You may repeat that walk on another day, under another qualifying category. A walk may be repeated only under the circumstance that it qualifies for more than one category. The intent is for participants to explore as many Light Rail Stations as possible.
- To qualify, a walk shall start, finish, or pass by a Light Rail Station. This website will maintain a list of qualified walks, and will be updated as new walks are added.
- To redeem your award, return your completed book to the address listed below. It will be checked and returned to you with your award patch. For books received after 12/31/2027, patches will be sent as long as they are available. No refunds.
Books are $15, and may be purchased at most Traditional Events in our area, starting with the New Year’s Eve event in West Seattle. Or you may purchase a book by mailing a check, payable to Emerald City Wanderers, for $15, to the address below. Include your name, your mailing address (for mailing the book to you), and your contact email address (we will not sell or divulge your information). Let us know if you would like to be included on an email list for periodic updates (unless you tell us otherwise, we will assume you want to opt-out of emails).
