Angle Lake Station

This lovely walk goes through the neighborhoods and parks near Angle Lake where you’ll enjoy some beautiful views of the area.  The 10K route leads to an exploration of the public-side of SeaTac Airport, where you’ll have fun being a “tourist”, finding public spaces you may not know about.

Distance & Trail Rating:  5K and 10K.  Rating:  2A.

Online Start Box:  This walk has the option to register either at the Physical Start Box at Auntie Irene’s Café in Des Moines (see below), or on the Online Start Box (OSB).  For OSB registration information, go to ava.org, or try this link.  Once you’ve registered online, the walk directions and map will be available for you to download.

Physical Start Box:  Auntie Irene’s Café.  22504 Marine View Dr. S., Des Moines, WA  98198.  Kindly ask for the walk box at the counter.  Note, it is about a 10-minute drive from the Physical Start Box to the walk start.  GPS coordinates for Physical Start Box location:  47.4003486,  -122.3239864.

Comments:  Restroom at Auntie Irene’s (Physical Start Box location).  At walk start, restrooms may be accessed at either of the two gas stations across the street from Angle Lake Light Rail Station (for customers only – you could buy a water).  Restrooms on the 5K route at about the 4K point, at Angle Lake Park – seasonally.  Restrooms on the 10K route at about the 3K point, at Valley View Park – also seasonally.  More restroom options later on 10K route.  Pets are not allowed on Light Rail, but ok on walk route if arriving otherwise.  The 10K route passes through another Light Rail Station and through a portion of SeaTac Airport, where pets are not allowed; but the walk directions include an alternate option to bypass this section, for walkers with pets.  Leash and clean up laws apply.  See comment below about parking.

Driving Directions to Physical Start Box at Auntie Irene’s Café:  From I-5 take exit 149 (Kent/Des Moines – SR-516).  Turn west onto Kent-Des Moines Rd (NB drivers turn left, SB drivers turn right).  Continue to traffic light at the bottom of the hill, where Kent-Des Moines Road becomes Marine View Drive.  Stay on this arterial as it veers right (crossing 8th Ave S, and passing Brown Bear Car Wash on your right).  Auntie Irene’s is at the corner of S. 225th St. and Marine View Drive.

Driving Directions from Auntie Irene’s to Walk Start :  Remember to gather a parking map from the physical start box, which will guide you to area parking at the walk start location.  From Auntie Irene’s Café in Des Moines, turn right on Marine View Dr. S. (heading northbound on Marine View Dr.).  Turn right at the light at S. 216th St.  Continue uphill on S. 216th St. to 24th Ave. S.  Turn left on 24th, and continue on 24th as it veers right and becomes 28th Ave. S.  Angle Lake Light Rail Station on the right.

From I-5 northbound, take exit 151 (S. 200th St / Military Rd.).  At end of exit ramp, turn left and continue for 0.4 miles, crossing over I-5.  At next traffic light, turn left onto S. 200th St.  Continue for 0.5 miles to Angle Lake Light Rail Station on your left.  See below for notes on parking.

From I-5 southbound, take exit 151 (S. 200th St / Military Rd).  At end of exit ramp, continue straight on 200th St., as noted above.

Parking:  The garage at Angle Lake Station is for Light Rail users only.  The OSB download and the Physical Start Box have handouts for a map and driving directions to parking options near the Station.
