Historic Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods with many buildings dating from the late 1800’s.  It is a diverse community that is home to many of the city’s treasured cultural and historic sights.  This walk begins in Volunteer Park, home to the Seattle Asian Art Museum and the Conservatory, and explores historic neighborhoods with stately houses.  You will pass through the Harvard-Belmont Landmark District and the vibrant core of Capitol Hill.  Historic and cultural sights include:  Seattle Central College, the Frye Art Museum, Seattle’s Health Care community and Seattle University including the well-known St. Ignatius Chapel.  The 10K route for this walk also qualifies under the new Light Rail Challenge, under the “North” category.  Visit this page for information on the Challenge.

Distance & Trail Rating:  5K and 10K.  Rating:  1A.

Online Start Box:  Registration is only available on the Online Start Box.  For registration information, go to ava.org, or try this link.  Once you’ve registered online, the walk directions and map will be available for you to download.  Start Location is in Volunteer Park (see below). The walk directions also include instructions on how to begin your walk from the Capitol Hill Light Rail Station for those who want to take Light Rail to the walk.

Comments:   Note – for those doing the Light Rail Challenge, only the 10K route passes the Light Rail Station.  For those who want to take Light Rail to the walk, the Online Start Box walk directions also include instructions on how to begin your walk from the Capitol Hill Light Rail Station (10K route only).  Pets are not allowed on Light Rail, but ok on walk route if arriving otherwise.  Leash and clean-up laws apply.

Metro Bus:  Route 49 serves the start location in Volunteer Park.  Routes 8, 9, 11, 43, 49, 60 serve the area near the Capitol Hill Light Rail Station – you can use the walk directions for alternate start from the Station if these routes are more convenient for you.
