Fremont Ship Canal

This walk visits Gasworks Park and then on to the Fremont neighborhood – “The Center of the Universe” – with its world famous sculptures of the Troll, “Waiting for the Interurban,” and Vladimir Lenin.  Walk on both sides of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, returning along the Burke Gilman Trail.  The 13K option continues to the Hiram Chittenden Locks and historic Ballard.

Distance & Trail Rating:  6K, 10K, or 13K.  Rating:  1A.

Start Location:  Fisheries Supply.  1900 N. Northlake Way, Seattle, WA  98103  (note:  store actually fronts on N. 34th St).  Start box is self-serve in a wood file cabinet just inside the door, on your left as you enter.

Start Location Hours:  Mon-Sat, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Sun, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Store may be closed on major holidays – call store at (206) 632-4462 to confirm.

Comments:  No restroom at Start Location.  Restroom at Gas Works Park, one block from Start Location.  Restrooms at the Chittenden Locks (13K route).

Driving Directions:  From I-5, take exit 169 (NE 45th St).  Turn west onto NE 45th St. and continue a half-mile to Meridian Ave. N.   Left on Meridian and head downhill to N. 34th St.   Fisheries Supply faces 34th.  Turn onto 34th for the best on-street parking, or park in lot at Gas Works Park.  Do not park in Fisheries Supply lot.

Metro Bus:  Routes 26 and 31/32 serve the area near the Start Location.
