Shoreline-N – 185th

The Shoreline Interurban Trail is the star of this walk, covering the City of Shoreline from 195th to 152nd St.  This trail was originally cleared in 1910 and used as an electric train connection from Everett to Tacoma, for the next 30 years.  Explore neighborhoods, parks, sport fields, elementary schools and the Shoreline Athletic Center.  Note, only the 11K route qualifies for the Light Rail Challenge.

Distance & Trail Rating:  7K and 11K.  Rating: 1A.

Online Start Box:  This walk has the option to register either at the Physical Start Box at Walgreens (see below), or on the Online Start Box (OSB).  For OSB registration information, go to ava.org, or try this link.  Once you’ve registered online, the walk directions and map will be available for you to download.

Start Location & Physical Start Box:  Walgreens.  17524 Aurora Ave N., Shoreline, WA 98133.  Start Box is on the window sill to the right of the store entry.  GPS coordinates for Start Location:   47.7563642,  -122.3460007.

Comments:   Note for those participating for the Light Rail Challenge, and for those who wish to arrive for this walk by Light Rail:  only the 11K route passes by the Station.  For the option to start your walk from the Station, register through the Online Start Box (OSB).  The OSB directions will have walk directions from the regular start at Walgreens, as well as directions for alternate start from the Station (the walk directions at the Physical Start Box at Walgreens will only start at the store).  Route includes paved trails, and two bridges over main arterial streets with stairs and/or ramps to cross bridges.  Restrooms are in Trader Joes, and at Twin Ponds Park on 155th and 1st NE, and by the tennis courts on 190th and 1st Ave.  Pets are not allowed on Light Rail, but ok on walk route if arriving otherwise.  Leash and clean-up laws apply.

Driving Directions & Parking:  From I-5, take exit 176 (NE 175th St / Shoreline).  Turn west on 175th (northbound drivers will turn left, southbound drivers will turn right).  Turn right on Midvale Ave.  Turn left into Walgreens parking lot.  Parking is also available across Midvale Ave in the City Parking Garage, or across 175th St at Trader Joes.  Note, there is also an option to skip the car, and take Light Rail, but only for the 11K route – see “Comments” above.
